Andrew Combs – Silk Flowers

andrew combs - all these dreamsSilk Flowers
Another morning, wide awake.
Different days, same mistake.
Some nameless stranger, lying in my bed.

One more gaze, and one more night.
I’ll have one more, so I can fight.
That voice the reason weaving into my head.

Darling you’re the only thing
still constant on my mind.
Do you ever think about me,
at least from time to time.

Silk flowers, forgotten home,
a lonely window-pane.
Dusty dreaming, another day,
they touched the satin rain.
My love is like these roses
dying to be true.
Withered, warm and waiting
to find my way back to you.

I spend my days in what money makes,
biding time what wasted ways.
Clinging to the same old blues again.

Oh the should have beens,
and the could have dones.
Just loaded questions and loaded guns.
What’s the use in ridicule,
words are left unsaid.
Darling I’m still holding on
of blossoms stuck in time.
Do I ever cross your memory,
like you’ve been crossing mine.

Silk flowers, forgotten home,
a lonely window-pane.
Dusty dreaming, another day,
they touch the satin rain
My love is like these roses,
dying to be true.
Withered, warm and waiting,
to find my way back to you.

Right or wrong and hanging home.
Tracing your name in the sky.
Captain …. Crying help.
Tears rolling bye, bye and bye.

Silk flowers, forgotten home,
a lonely window-pane.
Dusty dreaming, another day,
they touched the satin rain.
My love is like these roses,
dying to be true.
Withered, warm and waiting,
to find my way back to you.

Michael McDonald & Donald Fagen – Lonely Teardrops

rock and soulTussen 1989 en 1992 speelden Michael McDonald, Donald Fagen en Boz Scaggs samen in het muzikale project The New York Rock And Soul Revue. Andere deelnemers waren o.a Walter Becker (Steely Dan), Phoebe Snow (1950-2011) en Eddie & David Brigati (The Rascals).

Lonely Teardrops
My heart is crying, crying,
lonely teardrops.
My pillow’s never dry of
lonely teardrops.
Come home, come home.
Just say you will, say you will.
Say you will.
Bring it ‘round now baby.

My heart is crying, crying,
lonely teardrops.
My pillow never dries of
lonely teardrops.
Come home, come home.
Just say you will, say you will.
Say you will.
Bring it ‘round now baby.

Just give me a second chance,
for our romance.
Come on and tell me
that someday you’ll return.
‘Cause every day
that you’re gone away.
My heart does nothing but burn
crying.

Lonely teardrops.
My pillow never dries.
Lonely teardrops.
Come home, come home.
Just say you will, say you will.
Say you will.
Bring it ‘round now baby.

Just give me a second chance,
for our romance.
Come on and tell me
that someday you’ll return.
‘Cause every day
that you’re gone away.
My heart does nothing but burn
crying.

Lonely teardrops.
My pillow never dries.
Lonely teardrops.
Come home, come home.
Just say you will, say you will.
Say you will
Bring it ‘round now baby.

Kings Of Convenience – Mrs Cold

Hey baby, Mrs. Cold.
Acting so tough.
Didn’t know you had it in you
to be hurt at all.

You waited, too long.
You should’ve hook me,
before I put my raincoat on.

OK I get it.
OK I see.
You were fronting because
you knew you’d find yourself
vulnerable around me.

OK I get it.
OK I see.
You feel vulnerable around me.

Hey baby, what’s going on?
You lost control
and you lost your tongue.

You lost me.
Deaf in my ear.
Nothing you can say
is gonna change the way I feel.

OK I get it.
OK I see.
You were fronting because
you knew you find
yourself vulnerable around me

OK I get it.
OK I see.
I step too close to your boundaries.
You wanted nobody around to see.
You feel vulnerable around me.

Hey baby, what is love?
It was just a game.
We’re both playing
and we can’t get enough of.

Villagers – Memoir

Het nummer komt van het album Where Have You Been All My Life (2016).

villagers where have you beenMemoir
City lights are beckoning,
the sirens softly call.
All the fantasists and fetishists
are preparing the ball.
You’ve been stuck here on the doorstep
with nothing to forsake.
Well you might as well be anyone’s to take.

So I give myself to strangers,
like I gave myself to you.
But the tenderness I felt,
has been replaced by something new.
And in the orgy I can vaguely hear
the outline of your call.
Well I might as well be anyone’s at all.

Every memory is sailing
to the kingdom of your soul.
As you patiently await
I lose all sense of self control.
You were the lighthouse to my broken boat,
but I’ve left you behind.
Now I might as well be anyone’s to find.

Take my body, take it from me.
It is not worthy of your memory.
Take my body, take it from me.
It is not worthy of your memory.

I remember you undressing
as I set myself on fire.
And the funeral was quick
as I lay lifeless on your pyre.
It’s a kind of desperation,
and it’s just something you can’t fake.
Oh I might as well be anyone’s to take.

So I give myself to strangers,
like I gave myself to you.
But the unity I felt
has been replaced by something new.
Now I am Helen I am Mary Jane,
I am Robert I am Paul.
Oh I might as well be anyone at all.

Said I might as well be anyone at all.
Oh I might as well be anyone at all.
Oh I might as well be anyone at all.
Anyone at all.

David Wilcox – Kindness

Kindness
I love your sense of humor.
I love to see you smile.
I love your sense of balance.
I love your sense of time.

I love your music in the morning.
Your rhythm in the night.
But it’s your kindness,
that shines so bright.

Yes I love your beauty.
And I love your sexy moves.
But more I love your honesty.
You always tell the truth.

I love your music in the morning.
Your rhythm in the night.
But it’s your kindness,
that shines so bright.

Yes, I love your wisdom.
Your knowledge of the past.
Your willingness to listen.
Your taste for what will last.

I love your compassion for the suffering.
And your solid happiness.
But it’s your kindness,
that I love best.

I love your vision of the future.
Your hope that never dies.
But it’s your kindness,
that clears my skies.
I love, I love, I love.
