Drowning In The Sea Of Love is een lekker soul-nummer dat geschreven werd door Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, die verantwoordelijk waren voor de Philadelphia Soul, ook wel The Philly Sound genoemd. Het werd voor het eerst op de plaat gezet door soul-zanger Joe Simon (1936-2021) in 1971.
Hier wordt het uitstekend vertolkt door de Amerikaanse singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs, tijdens een concert van de supergroep The New York Rock & Soul Revue in 1991 onder leiding van Donald Fagen en met verder onder andere Michael McDonald & Phoebe Snow (1950-2011).

The Logical Song is een geweldig nummer van de Engelse groep Supertramp, dat komt van hun album Breakfast in America uit 1979. Ze spelen het hier tijdens een concert in Parijs in hetzelfde jaar. Roger Hodgson schreef het over zijn ervaringen op kostscholen waar hij 10 jaar doorbracht. Eerst op Woodcote House School in Windlesham, Surrey en daarna op Stowe School in Buckinghamshire.
Hij zei er zelf het volgende over: “The Logical Song was born from my questions about what really matters in life. Throughout childhood we are taught all these ways to be and yet we are rarely told anything about our true self. 
We are taught how to function outwardly, but not guided to who we are inwardly. We go from the innocence and wonder of childhood to the confusion of adolescence that often ends in the cynicism and disillusionment of adulthood. In The Logical Song, the burning question that came down to its rawest place was “please tell me who I am?”, and that’s basically what the song is about. I think this eternal question continues to hit such a deep chord in people around the world and why it stays so meaningful.”

Oh it’s getting unbelievable.
Bloody marvelous.
Voor mij zijn de Canadese singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright en de Amerikaanse singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles de allerbeste zangers van dit moment. Dat betekent niet persé dat ze de allerbeste muziek maken, maar qua zangstem zijn ze onovertroffen.
Dus wat een schitterende vondst als ik een duet van ze ontdek, het lied She Used To Be Mine dat geschreven werd door Bareilles voor de musical Waitress uit 2015, waarvan ze de muziek & teksten schreef van de songs. Ze brengen elkaar hier bij een optreden eind 2024 tot grote hoogte en dat is heel indrukwekkend & ontroerend om te zien & horen.
Sara Bareilles was al jaren fan van Rufus Wainwright en plaatste ooit een video van zichzelf in een Rufus Wainwright t-shirt op sociale media, waar hij op reageerde. Ze wisselden berichten uit met elkaar en spraken af ooit samen te werken. En zo is het gekomen.

Een heel bijzondere singer/songwriter vind ik de IJslandse Laufey (Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir). Haar vader is IJslands en haar moeder Chinees. Zowel haar moeder, grootmoeder als tweelingzus spelen viool. Ze leerde zelf piano spelen vanaf haar 4e en de cello vanaf haar 8e en studeerde aan de Berklee College of Music in Boston. Inmiddels heeft ze twee zeer succesvolle albums gemaakt, waarvan het laatste Bewitched vorig jaar een Grammy won in de categorie Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Laufey zingt hier op haar geheel eigen wijze het lied Savior Complex, dat geschreven werd door de Amerikaanse singer/songwriter Phoebe Bridgers en komt van haar album Punisher uit 2020. Laufey wordt begeleid door zes violisten, twee cellisten & een gitarist. En het prachtige arrangement is van de Amerikaanse multi-instrumentalist, arrangeur & producer Rob Moose.
